Locking Out & Tagging Out Accidents
The OSHA Lockout/Tagout Standard, CFR 1910.147, became effective on January 2, 1990. This standard covers the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment in which the unexpected energization or start up, or the release of stored energy could cause injury to employees. The standard establishes minimum performance requirements for the control of such hazardous energy. Lockout/tagout procedures must be followed by employees during servicing and/or maintenance.
The standard requires that all general industry employers prepare written lockout/tagout procedures for the isolation and control of hazardous energy sources. This compliance program provides an easy to read summary of the standard and a standard checklist. These items allow employers to promptly review the standard requirements and to audit compliance at least annually. Written lockout/tagout procedures and procedures forms are provided which will greatly assist employers in promptly preparing their procedures. Numerous other lockout/tagout forms and checklists are provided to assist employers in complying with the standard.
One of our consultants will come into your plant and audit the current status of your Lockout/Tagout program and suggest any needed changes or improvements. Or, since many employers must have numerous individual lockout/tagout procedures, our consultants can come into your plan to analyze your needs and prepare these written lockout/tagout procedures for you. They would then train your employees in following and administering the written procedures.
We also provide a one day course on-site at your location. The course is designed to assist organizations in complying with the Lockout/Tagout Standard, as well as the Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices Standard and general electrical safety guidelines.
Specific lockout/tagout topics covered include the following:
All attendees receive a copy of our Lockout/Tagout Compliance Manual and Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices Compliance Manual.
We have developed a complete and concise compliance manual that simplifies the language, defines the requirements, and provides checklists, procedures, and an implementation plan, as well as managing and training assistance. The required written program is also included in the manual as well as on diskette so you can easily customize it to fit your needs.
Our safety professionals provide frequent presentations at safety meetings, conferences, association meetings, seminars, etc. These presentations provide a general overview of the standard and how to comply.
